Daily suggestions
Every morning the agent reviews your ads and suggests pauses and budget changes on Home. Nothing changes until you approve.
Every morning the agent reviews your brand's ads against your targets and suggests a few changes on Home: pause an ad that's losing money, lower a budget that's missing its target, raise one that's beating it. You decide. Nothing changes until you select Approve.
Rolling out brand by brand
Daily suggestions aren't on for every brand yet. Koast turns them on brand by brand, and there's no switch for it in the app. Once they're on for your brand, a Suggestions section appears on Home and a Daily suggestions card appears in Settings, Agent.
Before you start
- Confirm at least one target for Cost per purchase, Cost per result or Return on ad spend in Settings, Agent. Suggestions compare your ads with it. See Goals and margins.
- Add your business numbers too, so the agent knows your breakeven and doesn't suggest pausing an ad that still makes money.
- Suggestions cover ad sets and ads you launched or imported through Koast, on your brand's Meta ad account.
What the agent checks every day
Once a day, from 6 AM in your ad account's time zone, the agent:
- Compares the last 7 full days, ending two days ago so the numbers have settled, with the 7 days before.
- Looks at every active ad set and ad that spent in that time, against your confirmed target.
- Picks the changes worth making and writes each card, citing only the numbers it measured.
It leaves an item alone when the numbers can't be trusted yet or a change would be too soon:
- It's still in Meta's learning phase, or it has no spend in the earlier week to compare with.
- It was changed in the last 72 hours.
- It's the only active ad in its ad set.
- It has fewer than 3 results in either week (a pause for spending with no results is the exception), or its optimization goal doesn't match what your target measures.
- It didn't spend enough to judge: at least twice your target cost in the week, or for a return on ad spend target, twice the account's average cost per result.
- The two weeks overlap one of your promo windows or its aftermath.
It raises nothing for an ad account that reported no results in the last 28 days, or, for a return on ad spend target, no purchase value. It skips the whole day when nobody has used Koast for the brand in the last 14 days, or the ad account had no spend.
The kinds of suggestions
| Card | When the agent suggests it (cost targets) | What approving does |
|---|---|---|
| Pause | The item spent at least twice your target in a week with no results. Or its cost per result was at least twice your target this week and 1.5 times it the week before, it spent at least 3 times your target, and its cost is above your breakeven. | Pauses the ad set or ad. |
| Lower the budget | The ad set missed your target by 20% or more in both weeks. | Lowers its budget by 20%. |
| Raise the budget | The ad set beat your target by 20% or more in both weeks and spent at least 90% of its daily budget. | Raises its daily budget by up to 20%. |
| Set your targets | You have no confirmed target yet. If the agent proposed some, it reads Confirm the targets Koast proposed. | Nothing. Set targets opens Settings, Agent and Got it hides the card. |
With a return on ad spend target the rules flip. A pause needs ROAS at half your target or lower this week and below target the week before. A lower budget needs ROAS at or below your target divided by 1.2 in both weeks (2.08 for a target of 2.5). A raise needs it at least 25% over your target in both weeks. Breakeven isn't part of a ROAS pause.
Budget suggestions only go to ad sets with a budget of their own, not to ones that share a campaign budget. A raise stays within the daily limit on new spend that Koast sets for your brand.
To keep the list short, the agent raises at most 3 new suggestions a day, keeps at most 5 open at once and suggests at most one budget raise a day.
What a card shows
Each card has the change and the item it applies to, why the agent suggests it with the numbers and dates, the change itself (such as "$600.00 to $480.00" or "Pause") and when it expires. Open the arrow for the details: Applies to, This period, Previous period, the metric in both weeks, your Target, your Breakeven, the Change and its Effect.
Approve or decline
- On Home, find Suggestions. The header reads "Nothing changes until you approve".
- Open the arrow on a card to check the numbers.
- Select Approve to make the change, or Decline to turn it down.
When you approve, Koast first checks the item on Meta. If its status or budget changed since the suggestion, nothing changes and the card says why, for example "Not changed: the ad set's budget changed since Koast suggested this." Otherwise Koast makes the change and the card confirms it, for example "Done: paused UGC 03 · Gym bag."
When you decline, you can pick a reason (Not now, Numbers look off, Already handled or Too risky) and select Confirm. The card leaves the list and the agent doesn't suggest the same change for 14 days.
If you don't answer, a card expires after 48 hours. The agent may raise it once more. If that one expires too, the agent leaves it alone for 14 days.
Decided suggestions from the last 7 days stay under Recent, with what happened to each.
View Only teammates see suggestions but can't approve or decline them. To approve, your role has to allow editing live campaigns.
Where suggestions show
- Home, in the Suggestions section with a count of the ones waiting. The line under your greeting counts them too.
- In chat, ask the agent "What did Koast suggest today?" or "Why did you suggest pausing that ad?". It can explain any card, but only a person approves or declines one, on Home.
The Daily suggestions card in Settings, Agent
| State | What it says |
|---|---|
| On | "Koast reviews this brand every day and raises suggestions for you to approve." |
| Stopped | "Suggestions stop with the agent. Koast raises none until it is resumed." |
| Off | "Daily suggestions are not turned on for this brand yet." |
While it's on or stopped, the card also shows Last run and how many suggestions are Open now. When a day brought no suggestions, Home shows "No suggestions today" with the same last-run line, so you can see why:
| Last run says | What it means |
|---|---|
| "Sep 19: 3 suggestions." | The review ran and raised 3 cards. |
| "Sep 19: skipped. No one used Koast in the last 14 days." | The brand had no activity, so the agent skipped it. |
| "Sep 19: skipped. No connected ad account to check." | Connect a Meta ad account to the brand. |
| "Sep 19: skipped. The ad account had no spend in the 7 days up to two days ago." | Nothing to judge yet. |
| "Sep 19: skipped. Koast reached its daily limit. This brand goes first tomorrow." | The review runs again the next morning. |
| "Sep 19: the review did not finish. Koast tries again tomorrow." | A one-off failure. |
Stop the agent, stop the suggestions
When you select Stop agent in Settings, Agent, the agent raises no new suggestions and withdraws the open ones ("Not changed: withdrawn when the agent was stopped."). Home shows "Suggestions are stopped" with a button to Open Agent settings. Select Resume agent to start them again. See What the agent does on its own, and what it asks first.
