What the agent does on its own, and what it asks first
Which actions the agent takes by itself and which ones wait for your approval.
Koast Agent can read your accounts, build campaigns and change some live settings. This page lists exactly what it does by itself, what it confirms with you first, and what it can't do at all.
The short version
| The agent... | Examples |
|---|---|
| Does it without asking (Agent mode) | Reads and reports, builds drafts, renames drafts, pauses or turns on a live campaign, ad set or ad when you tell it to |
| Confirms with you first | Money changes (it repeats the amount in dollars and waits for your yes), deletions, and every launch (preview first, then an explicit yes) |
| Never does in Plan mode | Anything that changes something. It tells you to switch to Agent mode instead |
| Can't do | Most edits to a live campaign other than budget and on/off, anything outside Koast (pixel firing, Events Manager, Business Manager, payment methods), and looking at your images or videos |
Plan mode and Agent mode
In Plan mode the agent only answers and advises. If you ask it to create, change, delete, launch or import something, it says it's in plan mode and asks you to switch to agent mode with the dropdown next to the send button. The agent is told to refuse, and most of the tools that make a change refuse to run in Plan mode on top of that.
In Agent mode it acts on what you ask. A clear instruction such as "pause the Harbor Cold Brew campaign" is treated as your go-ahead, so there's no extra confirmation for renames, pauses, reactivations or draft settings.
View Only teammates can't chat with the agent in either mode. Koast rejects any message they send, unless that person is also an organization admin.
What it reads
- Metrics for campaigns, ad sets and ads, daily breakdowns and account overviews
- Delivery status and disapprovals
- Your team's activity log
- Creative fatigue, scored from the numbers
- Campaigns in your ad account, including ones you haven't brought into Koast (it imports them quietly when it needs their numbers)
- Your drafts and campaigns, your ad account's pages, pixels, audiences and conversion events
What it builds
- Campaign drafts: campaigns, ad sets and ads, with settings, creatives you attach and copy it writes
- One campaign per draft. If the draft already has one, it offers a new ad set instead, or a separate draft
- Clones of a live campaign as new drafts, one draft per copy
- Imports of existing campaigns, including from another ad account you have access to
- Structure templates, pipeline tickets, and moves of cards between pipeline columns
- Agent Tasks: it can create, save, turn on and run them without asking. When a task would launch something, it adds a review step so a person signs off before the launch
After any change, the agent runs a read-only check of what it did. You see Verifying changes… while it runs. It reports only what the check confirmed, and says so plainly when something failed or was skipped.
Live campaigns
A campaign that's already live on the platform is treated carefully:
- Budget: the agent can change the daily or lifetime budget of a live campaign or ad set. It repeats the new amount in dollars and waits for your yes first. Ads don't have budgets.
- On and off: it can pause or turn on a live campaign, ad set or ad.
- Everything else (targeting, placements, names, creatives on live ads) can't be changed from chat. Use Publish Changes in the builder, or the ad platform. See Edit a live campaign.
Launching
Launching always takes two messages. When you ask to launch, the agent checks the draft and shows a preview of what will be published, then stops. It publishes only after you reply with an explicit yes. If the check finds problems, it lists each one and suggests a fix instead of retrying.
When nobody is watching
Agent Tasks can run the agent on a schedule. In those unattended runs the agent can't ask you anything. If the instructions are ambiguous or missing something, it doesn't guess: it says what's unclear and stops. See Scheduled agent flows.
What it can't do
- See pixel firing on your site, Events Manager, Business Manager, domain verification or payment methods. It tells you what it can see in Koast and suggests checking the rest with your developer or Meta support.
- Look at images or videos. It reads a creative's name, type and numbers.
- Work outside ad campaign management. Ask it to write code or an essay and it declines.
- Use saved audiences or pick from a conversion-event list on a Koast ad account, because those aren't available there.
